Litter Picking - A boost to wellbeing

We all know that the Welsh weather can be a little changeable! Not knowing if we need a tea shirt or a jacket to venture outside, but this doesn’t put off the Friends of Margam Park Litter picking group who are a dedicated and passionate team who get together in all weathers!

Walking has proven to be a therapeutic way of stretching the muscles and raising endorphins, boosting mental well-being, and appreciating the environment. It also encouraged the stimulation of group communication and has proven to be a great post-operative exercise.

The Litter Picking Group in conjunction with Keep Wales Tidy walk out and about on a regular basis, to ensure that the park is kept clear of any leftover rubbish that may have been discarded by the public, or after any large Corporate events. They also firmly believe that the safety and protection of the animals is paramount to the park and to the animals themselves. The team are dedicated and passionate about the environment and have helped Margam Park win the prestigious Green Flag on numerous occasions.

The sense of satisfaction that is felt upon return with bags full of rubbish, is then followed by a trip to the coffee shop with a steaming hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate and a piece of cake, a great way to finish off a session volunteering!

If you feel you would like to join in with our community spirit, enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Margam Park, whilst watching the variety of stunning rare animals, please contact our litter pick co-ordinator suzanne@friendsofmargampark.co.uk. to find out more.
